Selection route

  • Kent Test

Local authority selection test · GL Assessment · Paper-based multiple-choice tests with separate answer sheets, followed by an unmarked writing exercise

English, mathematics and reasoning results are age-standardised. Kent sets an aggregate threshold and minimum component scores for each test year. The September 2027 thresholds are not yet published, a grammar assessment does not guarantee a school place, and each school applies its own admissions criteria when oversubscribed.

Who gets priority

Published area: Category 5: Borough of Gravesham, Category 6: Ash-cum-Ridley, Bean, Fawkham, Hartley, Longfield and New Barn, Southfleet, Swanscombe and Greenhithe, Stansted, and the Unparished Area of Ebbsfleet, Category 7: Stone, Darenth, Horton Kirby and South Darenth, Cliffe and Cliffe Woods.

These are separate ordered home-address priority tiers, not a single eligibility catchment. Other eligible boys can apply in category 8. Use the permanent home under the Kent admissions definition. Ask the admissions authority to confirm the exact borough, civil parish or unparished-area boundary; a postcode alone cannot prove membership.

Boys must be suited to grammar school through the Kent Age 11 assessment. Eligible EHCP-named admissions come before the 210-place allocation. The order is looked-after or previously looked-after children, including policy-defined overseas state-care/adoption cases; evidenced medical, social or special-access need; continuing siblings; qualifying staff children; Gravesham residents; residents of the category 6 parishes or Ebbsfleet unparished area; residents of the category 7 parishes; then all other eligible boys. Medical/social/access claims may concern the child or parent/guardian and need a demonstrable, significant school-specific need supported by a suitably qualified practitioner. Siblings must live as siblings in the same home and attend when the child joins. Staff need at least two years of employment or recruitment to a demonstrable shortage post. Within every category, Pupil Premium applicants come first, then nearer homes; premium ties also use distance. Premium covers FSM in the last six years, excluding universal infant meals alone, and policy-defined care-status applicants. Return the premium SIF and evidence by 31 October 2026; it does not replace the common application. Distance is straight-line permanent-home-to-school NLPG address-point distance, with special provisions for unregistered homes. Equal distance uses random selection. The waiting list follows the same criteria and is re-ranked whenever a child is added.
