Selection route

  • Kent Test

Local authority selection test · GL Assessment · Paper-based multiple-choice tests with separate answer sheets, followed by an unmarked writing exercise

English, mathematics and reasoning results are age-standardised. Kent sets an aggregate threshold and minimum component scores for each test year. The September 2027 thresholds are not yet published, a grammar assessment does not guarantee a school place, and each school applies its own admissions criteria when oversubscribed.

    Official registration page
Eligibility
Year-7 applicants must complete the Kent 11+ and achieve the required grammar standard, normally around the 75th percentile or above.
Score policy
Normal entry uses the Kent Test; the separate in-year school test requires standardised age score 110 or more in each verbal, non-verbal and maths paper.
Registration
GIAS does not publish the current test registration URL.

Who gets priority

Published area: Thanet, Broomfield, Chestfield, Herne, Herne Bay, Reculver, Swalecliffe, Whitstable.

Use the black-line boundary on page 13 of the policy, rather than a town name or postcode alone. Ask the Admissions Registrar to confirm uncertain addresses. Area priority follows the earlier categories.

Open the official boundary information

After EHCP-named admissions, eligible applicants are prioritised by looked-after or previously looked-after status, evidenced health or special access needs, Pupil or Service Premium, current sibling association, qualifying staff-child status, the mapped priority area, then other applicants. Health/access and premium claims require supplementary forms and evidence. Staff must have a permanent contract and meet the two-year employment or recent shortage-post condition. Within categories, straight-line home-to-school distance ranks applicants, with random allocation for otherwise equal claims. The main-home-address and shared-residence rules are in section 7.
