Practise the 25 times table

Three practice questions first, then all twelve facts in a random order. Each one has six seconds and a three-second pause before the next, the same pace as the multiplication tables check in Year 4. Type the answer or tap the keypad.

Six seconds is a tough pace for a table beyond 12. If it feels too fast, work each fact out on paper first, then come back to the check.

Patterns that help

Every answer ends in 25, 50, 75 or 00. Four lots of 25 make 100, just as four 25p coins make £1, so 25 × 4 = 100, 25 × 8 = 200 and 25 × 12 = 300.

Facts worth learning by heart: 25 × 7 = 175, 25 × 9 = 225 and 25 × 11 = 275.

If a fact goes missing: Work out 100 lots, then halve twice. 25 × 7: 100 × 7 is 700, half of 700 is 350, and half of 350 is 175.

The multiplication tables check in Year 4 stops at 12, so the 25 times table is not in it. It is a stretch table: knowing it makes 11+ questions on multiples, fractions and money quicker, but the 2 to 12 tables come first.

Questions parents ask

What is 25 times 12?

300. It is 25 × 10 = 250 plus 25 × 2 = 50.

Which answers in the 25 times table are square numbers?

Three of them: 25 × 1 = 25, 25 × 4 = 100 and 25 × 9 = 225.

How does the 25 times table carry on after 25 × 12?

25 × 13 = 325, 25 × 14 = 350 and 25 × 15 = 375. Each answer is 25 more than the one before.
