Patterns that help

Every answer is even. When 6 is multiplied by an even number, the answer ends in that same number: 6 × 2 = 12, 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36, 6 × 8 = 48.

The facts that trip children up: 6 × 7 = 42, 6 × 8 = 48, 6 × 9 = 54, 6 × 12 = 72.

If a fact goes missing: Use the 3 times table and double it. 6 × 7: 3 × 7 is 21, double 21 is 42.

The 6 times table is one of the five (6, 7, 8, 9 and 12) that the multiplication tables check gives more weight to, so it is worth extra practice before June of Year 4.
