Six seconds is a tough pace for a table beyond 12. If it feels too fast, work each fact out on paper first, then come back to the check.

Patterns that help
Thirteen times a number is ten times it plus three times it. The last digits go 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0, in the same order as the 3 times table.
Facts worth learning by heart: 13 × 7 = 91, 13 × 8 = 104 and 13 × 12 = 156.
If a fact goes missing: Split 13 into 10 and 3. 13 × 7 is 70 + 21, which is 91.
The multiplication tables check in Year 4 stops at 12, so the 13 times table is not in it. It is a stretch table: knowing it makes 11+ questions on multiples, fractions and money quicker, but the 2 to 12 tables come first.

13 × 13 = 169, 13 × 14 = 182 and 13 × 15 = 195. Each answer is 13 more than the one before.
