Eligibility

For academic selection, the child's permanent home address must be in a published Local Priority Area at test registration and application, or the child must be educated in the London Borough of Islington at both points. Test registration and the home local-authority CAF are separate steps.

Score policy

Part I verbal-reasoning scores are age-standardised and ranked. Only ranks 1 to 325 proceed to Part II. English and mathematics results are age-standardised and combined with verbal reasoning; the 65 academic places are offered in combined-rank order. Ties use verbal reasoning, then English, then mathematics, then straight-line distance. A test rank does not itself guarantee an offer.

The Local Priority Areas apply to music and academic categories 4 and 5, not all places. Permanent home residence in a listed area or education in Islington is required at test registration and application. The definitive area list is on PDF page 4; website maps are indicative. A postcode alone cannot establish the parish or education condition. Separate locality categories 2 and 7 use permanent residence at the application deadline. Note B sets evidence and shared-address rules: a move within 36 months with a former home retained less than 50 miles away means a closer address is treated as temporary; moving farther away before entry normally withdraws a locality offer. Ask the admissions authority to confirm the full address and category.

After EHCP-named admissions, the order is looked-after or previously looked-after children; the 22 closest permanent homes; qualifying siblings; up to ten music places; up to 65 academic places; qualifying staff children; then other closest homes. At least 20 places overall go to Islington residents or children educated there, with the academic allocation making up any shortfall. Music and academic candidates need the Local Priority Area or Islington education condition at registration and application. Music needs at least 50 in the first test, then combined-test rank. Academic candidates need a top-325 verbal-reasoning rank to progress, then combined-score rank, with equal totals separated by verbal reasoning, English, then maths. Siblings must attend at application, have entered before Sixth Form and share a permanent weekday home under the policy definition. Qualifying siblings cannot sit the tests; multiple-birth admissions have additional conditions on page 3. Staff need a permanent contract and two years of service or a demonstrable shortage post; the child must share the permanent weekday home. General ties use HCC straight-line AddressBase Premium distance, then independently supervised random selection for identical distance; staff ties use service length. CAF deadline: 31 October 2026.
