A short worked example (2:39) for one 11+ non-verbal reasoning skill: Track order and position.
This video shows how to track how parts swap places or move through positions in a visual pattern. Watch an 11+ non-verbal reasoning question solved step by step.

Five symbols stand in a row. Then, in three quick moves, everything looks scrambled. Can you still name the symbol in fourth place? Yes... if you track positions, not guesses.
Number the spaces from left to right: first, second, third, fourth, fifth. Those spaces stay fixed, like numbered seats. The symbols are passengers. When two symbols exchange places, move each passenger to the other seat. After every move, pause and read the whole row again. Keep each symbol's shape, shading and direction unchanged. A black triangle stays a black triangle; it does not become the symbol whose place it takes. If one symbol moves past another, do not track only the empty-looking gap. Rebuild the order. Ask, 'Who is first now? Who is second now?' Continue until the final move is complete.
Let's work through an example. Five symbols begin in this order: circle, square, triangle, star, diamond. First, the square and star exchange places. Next, the circle moves to the end, and every symbol it passes shifts one place left. Finally, the triangle and diamond exchange places. Which symbol finishes in second place? Option A is the circle. Option B is the square. Option C is the triangle. Option D is the diamond. Which option is correct? Start with circle, square, triangle, star, diamond. Swap square and star. The row becomes circle, star, triangle, square, diamond. Now move circle to the end. The row becomes star, triangle, square, diamond, circle. One move remains. Exchange triangle and diamond. The final order is star, diamond, square, triangle, circle. Second place holds the diamond, so Option D is correct. Notice: the diamond never changed its shading or shape. Only its position changed.
Number the places, update the complete order after every move, and keep each element's features fixed. Track the passengers, not just the seats... and even a scrambled row becomes easy to solve. Stay calm, make one move at a time, and trust your final row. You can do this!
