3/4 as a decimal
Divide 3 by 4, or make the bottom 100: 3/4 = 75/100 = 0.75.
The answer
3/4 = 0.75
How to turn 3/4 into a decimal
The quick way is to make an equivalent fraction with a bottom of 100, because hundredths can be written straight down as a decimal.
- 4 × 25 = 100.
- Do the same to the top: 3 × 25 = 75.
- So 3/4 = 75/100, which is 75 hundredths.
75 hundredths is written 0.75: the last digit goes in the hundredths column.
You can also divide the top by the bottom. Short division gives the same answer:
- 4 does not go into 3, so write 0 and a decimal point, then carry the 3 over as 30 tenths.
- 4 goes into 30 7 times, remainder 2. Write 7, and carry the 2 to make 20.
- 4 goes into 20 5 times exactly. Write 5.
- The remainder is 0, so the division stops: 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75.
