2/25 as a decimal

The quick way is to make an equivalent fraction with a bottom of 100, because hundredths can be written straight down as a decimal.

1. 25 × 4 = 100.
2. Do the same to the top: 2 × 4 = 8.
3. So 2/25 = 8/100, which is 8 hundredths.

8 hundredths is written 0.08: the last digit goes in the hundredths column.

You can also divide the top by the bottom. Short division gives the same answer:

1. 25 does not go into 2, so write 0 and a decimal point, then carry the 2 over as 20 tenths.
2. 25 goes into 20 0 times, remainder 20. Write 0, and carry the 20 to make 200.
3. 25 goes into 200 8 times exactly. Write 8.
4. The remainder is 0, so the division stops: 2 ÷ 25 = 0.08.

Every twenty-fifth is 4 hundredths: 2/25 is 2 × 4 = 8 hundredths, which is 0.08.

2/25 sits between 0 and 1/4 (0.25). It is closer to 0.
