The multiples of 2 make five straight columns: every number ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.

Patterns that help

The last digits go 2, 4, 6, 8, 0 and then repeat.

2 is even, so every multiple of 2 is even too.

A quick check: The last digit is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. Every multiple of 2 is an even number, and every even number is a multiple of 2.

Building the list from facts you know: Count on in 2s, or double: 2 × 9 is double 9, which is 18.

2 is a prime number, so its only factors are 1 and 2.

6. It is the first number in both the 2 and the 3 times tables. After it, they meet every 6: 6, 12 and 18 are all multiples of both.

What is the 20th multiple of 2?

40, because 2 × 20 = 40. The 50th is 100 and the 100th is 200.

How many multiples of 2 are there up to 1000?

500. The biggest is 2 × 500 = 1000.
